Legislative Review 2001

NEW LAWS THAT PASSED

Pick-up Trucks

House Bill 4392, this legislation does not permit a person less than 18 years of age to ride in the open bed of a pickup truck at a speed greater than 15 miles per hour, except if you’re a part of a parade, a farm worker, construction worker, or emergency search and rescue unit.

Status: Goes into effect March 28, 2001

The Motorcyclists of ABATE & District 14 were the only lobbying groups fighting to keep adults from losing their right to be transported in the back of a pickup truck.

Motorcycle Seizure

Senate Bill 1012, this bill would require law enforcement and local police to secure and transport a motorcycle in a manner and to a place that will protect it from damage AND limit detention of suspected of being stolen motorcycles to 30 days after the date of seizure.

Status: Goes into effect March 28, 2001

This law only applies to suspicious motorcycles. Should your bike be impounded for any other reason it is still at the mercy of whatever the police officer calls for.
